The UMass Athletics department has completed the Jim and Ellen Hunt Indoor Performance Center, a major capital project that officially opened in fall 2026. The state-of-the-art facility supports the men's and women's cross country and track and field programs, transforming the former Curry Hicks Cage into one of the premier training centers in the Northeast.

The renovated two-level facility is managed exclusively by UMass Athletics and features a grand lobby and entrance area celebrating the history and accomplishments of the programs while providing an inviting space for student-athletes, alumni/ae, and recruits. The lower practice level features a track-specific surface with dedicated space for jumping and throwing events, along with a sprint straightaway. The second level will feature a practice track along with space for non-impact training, and a OOFOS Recovery Center. The facility also houses recently renovated coaches' offices, team locker rooms, and the Peter '78 and Denise '79 Bloom Academic Lounge. An adjacent training pool provides additional workout space for student-athletes.

The opening of the Jim and Ellen Hunt Indoor Performance Center represents a significant investment in the future of UMass cross country and track and field, enhancing training opportunities and supporting the continued development and success of Minutemen and Minutewomen.
